Do the intercropping with Crotalaria spectabilis and Urochloa ruziziensis reduce the maize agronomic performance?

ABSTRACT Depending on the climate and soil conditions management, intercropping of maize with cover plants may reduce cereal agronomic performance. This study aimed to assess effects Urochloa ruziziensis Crotalaria spectabilis performance straw production quality after harvest. Three treatments (single intercropped U. C. spectabilis) were distributed into a randomized blocks design. The growth components grain yield evaluated in three systems, as well nitrogen accumulation each system. systems did not decrease performance, if compared single crop, regardless species. presented 24 11 % higher, respectively, resulted 39 when crop.
